About the Department
History and Educational Mission

The Department of Music in the College of Arts at Fu Jen Catholic University was founded in 1983 under the direction of Archbishop Lo Kuang, then president of the university. Its educational mission reflects the ideals of truth, goodness, beauty, and holiness.
Building on its experience in music education, the department established a master’s program in performance in 1996. A musicology specialization was added in the 1999 academic year to foster scholarly research, followed by composition in 2001. In 2002, the department introduced an in-service master’s program to meet the continuing education needs of working music professionals. In 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the doctoral program to cultivate advanced musical talent and contribute to cultural development.
Our graduates pursue further study and careers in music education, performance, and other music-related fields. The department places particular emphasis on holistic education and personal development. With well-equipped facilities, a strong faculty, and a comprehensive curriculum, we aim to nurture music professionals who combine academic achievement with personal integrity, and to create an artistic community that glorifies God.
