Breaking Borders in Music Education: Our School Launches Deep International Collaboration with Duquesne University School of Music

To promote the international development of music education and music therapy, a delegation from our Music Department visited the Duquesne University Mary Pappert School of Music in Pittsburgh, USA, from February 10 to 14, 2025. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for academic exchanges and laid a strong foundation for future collaborations between the two institutions.

Highlights of the Exchange:
The visit focused on campus tours, academic discussions, faculty-student interactions, and cultural experiences. The delegation toured the Duquesne University School of Music’s state-of-the-art facilities, including concert halls, recording studios, and professional practice rooms, which reflect the institution’s commitment to high standards in music education. The delegation then engaged in productive discussions with the Dean and Associate Dean of the school, addressing topics such as curriculum design, academic cooperation, and potential future collaborations.

In the field of music therapy, the delegation met with Duquesne’s music therapy faculty for two in-depth discussions, covering course design, student internships, and possible future research collaborations. Both parties expressed a strong desire to cooperate, with plans to initiate online collaborative courses and other concrete projects.

Student Exchanges and Outcomes:
The student exchange experience was equally enriching, with activities including a welcome dinner, campus tours, city excursions, attending classes, and participating in community drum circle events. These activities allowed students to immerse themselves in the local academic environment and culture, while also fostering cultural exchanges and friendships with local students. The experience not only enhanced their language skills but also deepened their understanding of different cultures, further expanding their international perspective.

Conclusion:
This international exchange provided our School of Music faculty and students with valuable global learning opportunities and established a solid foundation for long-term cooperation in music education and music therapy. Moving forward, our school will continue to promote internationalization, exploring more collaborative models to provide broader academic platforms and development opportunities for our faculty and students.
